Thereplica watches was indeed a watch designed for pilots. It only makes sense that an air-force or two would adopt the 24-hour bezel'd piece as their own.We all know that several watch companies have used materials that can be described as slightly to moderately radioactive over the years. Often times this refers to the lume used on the markers of a dial, but in some cases, it was more than that.
In a great piece of sleuthing done by a chap from the VintageRolexForum, it is discovered that tag heuer replica was in fact sued by the family of a naval officer for radiation poisoning back in August 1961. The case was brought up by a naval officer who bought the watch in 1958 in Hong Kong. He claims that radiation from the http://www.modserap.com/rolex-submariner-replica-australia-for-sale.html watch has caused "outward physical changes, such as skin lesions and failing eyesight."
The suit involves the naval officer, his wife, and their five children and was for $5.6million. That amount, adjusted to today's dollar, is over $42 million. The case named Rolex USA and its Swiss counterparts as the defendants.
The watch in question was an early Rolex GMT-Master, a watch that is famously known for being produced originally with a bakelite bezel. Theses bezels were later recalled by Rolex, perhaps as a direct response to this very lawsuit and they now fetch over $15,000 regularly - for the bezel alone!
We don't have word on the official outcome of this suit but another VRF member did a quick scan and it appears that most of the Mound family is still alive and kicking today! In the world of watches, it is always fascinating to see what is on the wrists of the world's governmental and business leaders. It can be interesting to draw broader conclusions about a person based on what is they're wearing, whether that is Bill Clinton wearing a Timex Ironman watch during his campaign and early White House Years, Barack Obama wearing a watch given to him by the Secret Service from their gift shop, Elena Kagan wearing a Movado, Warren Buffett wearing a Rolex President or Nicolas Sarkozy wearing a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona.
Business Insider has an interesting article discussing Rolex watches in Russia along with what watches the Russian political and business elite wear. The author does not make clear how he obtained and compiled this information, but it is an interesting article nonetheless.Hint: there are some seriously awesome, and seriously hideous watches on this list.
