In 1963, the Heuer watch company (today’s aaa tag heuer) released the first Carrera, a chronograph inspired by auto racing, which went on to become an international icon. As TAG Heuer celebrates the Carrera’s 50th anniversary this year, WatchTime sits down for a candid interview with the man who created the Carrera, watch-industry living legend Jack Heuer.
WT: This year marks the 50th anniversary of the TAG Heuer Carrera, the sports watch that you conceived 50 years ago. Did you think back then that it would become as iconic as it is today?
JH: In all fairness, no, but when i entered the watch industry, one couldn’t foresee many of the fundamental changes that have happened to it in the years since.
