Highly-touted forward Chimezie Metu from Lawndale has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play basketball for USC, it was announced by head coach Andy Enfield today (Nov. 14). On Wednesday, USC Mercurial Superful IV FG Black Red announced Nike Magista Obra FG the signing of forward Bennie Boatwright giving the Trojans two players ranked in the top 10 in California and in the top 60 in the country which comes on the heels of last year's No. 12-ranked class.
"Chimezie has great size at 6-10 and is a high-level athlete that can affect the game at both ends of the floor," said Enfield. "We expect Chimezie to have an immediate impact on our program as we continue to improve in all areas as a team."
Metu is a 6-10, 220-pound power forward whose athleticism and length make him a force on the defensive end of the court. Metu was named the Pioneer League MVP last season as he averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks per game and led his Lawndale High team to the CIF Southern Section quarterfinals. Metu is ranked the No. 43 prospect in the 2015 class by Scout.com, No. 46 by Rivals.com and No. 51 by ESPN.com
Metu, originally from Nigeria, played at the 2014 NIKE Global Challenge for Nigeria and averaged 16 points and 9.8 rebounds, while recording Soccer Shoes Outlet seven assists and six blocks in the four games to earn All-Tournament selection.
Metu had offers from schools all over the country including, UConn, Oregon, Arizona State, Creighton and Harvard.
Boatwright, Mercurial Vapor X FG who signed on Nov. 12, is a 6-10, 220-pound forward who is ranked as the No. 52 prospect in the 2015 class by Scout.com, No. 56 by Rivals.com and No. 83 by ESPN.com.
ESPN.com ranked Metu as the No. 4 player and Boatwright at the No. 8 player in the state of California.
