That's kind of the point: if you burn a lot of calories with strength training, enter your strength exercises properly, so not good enough. When strength training is intensity unwise indeed important, but that intensity EREMAX you must search in optimal control, control and power conversion ratio and not in speed and repetition. Hence you with strength (relative) consume few calories; thus with respect to cardiovascular fitness.
If your strength properly executes, you burn calories less absolute than during cardiovascular exercise. Someone during weight training burns more calories than during cardio urgently need to increase its weight and resistance, because in that case you wielding no optimal muscle growth. And muscle growth and strength increase is in my opinion the reason people do strength. Of course, there is talk of athletics after afterburning or afterburn, but that also applies to endurance.
