This phenomenon is known as the "bulging belly" of ball mill.
The damages of the “bulging belly” phenomenon of ball mill are as follows.
The “bulging belly” phenomenon not only makes the ball mill lose (or reduce) the function of grinding of ball mill, destroying the stable work of ball mill, but also dealing with the “bulging belly” phenomenon will cause the fluctuation of the feeding concentration and fineness in the subsequent sorting operations, affect the normal operations of sorting. In addition, the serious “bulging belly” phenomenon will cause the damage of ball mill. For example, for the series "bulging belly" phenomenon of overflow type ball mill, the large pieces of ore and steel balls will be spit from the inlet and discharge opening, that is the so-called "front spit and back pull”. For the lattice-type ball mill, the “bulging belly” will cause a large number of folders with ore and steel ball poured from the inlet and discharge opening. Especially for the closed circuit grinding, for these two types of ball mill, there will be a lot of folders with ore and steel ball coming back to the sand box, leading to large pieces of ore and balls knock the feeding device strongly, damaging the feeding device and the sand box. If the “bulging belly” phenomenon is serious, the ball mill will be in vibration or beating, the bearing and the gear will be damaged due to the impact.
Therefore, in operating the ball mill, the operator must pay great attention to prevent the occurrence of “bulging belly” phenomenon.
