Working in secrecy vintage style design with a very modern movement makes for a TAG Heuer watch that is a few things to a few people

Working in secrecy, TAG Heuer collaborated with the Oracle team, in particular Gilberto Nobili, to create the Aquaracer 72 and the arm-mounted PDAs you see in the next picture. These run the same software but are configured to display more data, and are used by the captain and tactician, each of whom need more information to do their jobs. To be honest, I got excited when the character tag heuer Formula 1 replica handed a box over to Walt (actor Bryan Cranston) as a gift for his 51st birthday. While it wasn't clear that the gift was a watch yet, I was pretty sure it was something like that based on the presentation box. Sitting in his car, Walt opens up the lid to reveal a Tag Heuer Monaco. He isn't sure what to make of it, no doubt. Until now, Walt's character has been wearing an inexpensive (but reliable) digital Casio watch. Fitting watch for his character? Not sure to be honest. But it is good enough for Steve McQueen (Monaco watch from Le Mans movie sold for about $800, 000), and Stephen Colbert. I wonder where Jesse got the idea?
An un-apologetically vintage style design with a very modern movement makes for a watch that is a few things to a few people. It makes me wonder if Tag Heuer is marketing to multiple groups with this watch. The gold case and style will appeal to fashion types wanting something "special" from the racing watch brand. The movement on the other hands will appeal to gear-head watch collectors who appreciate the high performance chronograph. I think it is interesting how Tag Heuer created something for both of these audiences. Price wise the hublot replica is hard to stomach and reaches the"if you have to ask you cant afford" territory of $50, 000. It does have a hand-made movement, 18k rose gold case, and is part of a limited edition of just 150 pieces - but still feels expensive for a Tag Heuer even though it is not the brands most expensive watch at all.
There will be no 50th anniversary this year, nor there will be a new re-issue, but regardless, it doesn’t stop a group of enthusiasts in my country to celebrate this key milestone. Henceforth, on Dec 6, 2012, Heuer Mania in Manila ensued. A gathering that took place in one of the country’s go to places for your horological passion. A place where vintage collecting is the king of conversations, a place where the sense of timepiece appreciation is heightened by its sheer magnitude of technicalities, a place where vices are unique, a place called “Unique Bisyo“. The premise of limiting one’s Heuer piece to be free from the Tag namesake has never been more apparent. In such a way that it entails that Heuer of the past are above the Tag Heuer of today. But then again, as far as hublot King Power replica timepieces are concerned, such snobbery towards newer models is the norm. Despite such sentiments, all Heuer, new and old were welcomed in the said event, and it may perhaps be the one of the largest Heuer gathering in the country to date.
During Baselworld i met fellow blogger David, who is the man behind Calibre 11, one of my favorite wristwatch weblogs. At Calibre 11 he shares his passion for vintage Heuer watches, like his recently restored Autavia GMT, and modern TAG Heuer watches. David told me he had a meeting with Jack Heuer. Wait… hold on… he was going to meet and interview the man who was responsible for the brand that made my beloved Autavia!! A month after Baselworld i received a package that contained something that put a smile on my face immediately…. and it still does now i write about it.
